Resting
She has a message of hope that we can and will get through this dark passage. It’s so important that we stick together and not turn against one another.
— Spring Washam, The Spirit of Harriet Tubman: Awakening from the Underground
I’ve just listened to Spring Washam’s book about channeling Tubman’s spirit and the powerful message she has for us. I was so taken by the book that there were moments I stopped in my tracks taking in Spring Washam’s voice and the power of the message she delivered.
When I found I had crossed that line, I looked at my hands to see if I was the same person.”
— Harriet Tubman
Today is the National Day of Rest for Black women. And I think Harriet would understand exactly what that means.
Today I sat outside with Tree. Just yesterday at sunset, Tree’s branches were red and bumpy with buds. They almost looked irritated. Sometimes looking at certain textures makes me sensitive. It didn’t yesterday. I asked if I could touch one and was granted permission. This morning so many of the red buds had turned green. Leaves making their way back. It makes me think about what’s happening right now.
Took Jett on a long walk. Had a beautiful conversation with Laura Chandler from Sacred Stream.
Resting.
I’ve been overdoing it with the screens and it’s been impacting my sleep. I have to wind down earlier and truly disconnect. Last night I was under the covers earlier than I will admit — phone nowhere in sight. Waking up felt different. I will honor this new routine and see what happens.
But for the rest of the day I will dream.
Love you.
Love us, Black women.
May we be rested.

You are incredible!
Ooo I’m interested in this book, towards the end of last year i read Tiya Miles, “Night Flyer: Harriet Tubman and the Faith Dreams of a Free People.” & i crave more of this.
